Since the metal is poured into a stationary mold, the resulting roll is made of a single material. The barrel (working layer), which comes into contact with steel during rolling, is rapidly cooled by the mold, resulting in a denser microstructure than that of the shaft section.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"popup-2\" class=\"popup_video_wrap\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n          <video id=\"video-2\" preload=\"auto\" src=\"https:\/\/shi-hmx.co.jp\/english\/wp_shihmx_en\/wp-content\/themes\/theme_shihmx_en\/images\/roll-process\/video-2.mp4\" controls loop type=\"video\/mp4\" ><\/video><\/p>\n<div class=\"txt\">\n<h2>Centrifugal casting<\/h2>\n<p>The outer layer is cast into a mold rotating at high speed, and after cooling, the rotation is stopped and the core material is cast. This process enables the production of composite rolls with different materials for the working layer (barrel) and the shaft section.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"popup-3\" class=\"popup_video_wrap\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<div class=\"pic\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shi-hmx.co.jp\/english\/wp_shihmx_en\/wp-content\/themes\/theme_shihmx_en\/images\/roll-process\/popup_4_open.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"txt\">\n<h2>HIP<\/h2>\n<p>Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) is a method of processing materials under high temperature and high pressure.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"popup-4\" class=\"popup_video_wrap\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<div class=\"pic\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shi-hmx.co.jp\/english\/wp_shihmx_en\/wp-content\/themes\/theme_shihmx_en\/images\/roll-process\/popup_3_open.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"txt\">\n<h2>Forging Method<\/h2>\n<p>Forging is a metalworking process in which metal is shaped by hammering. The term &#8220;forging&#8221; comes from the act of &#8220;forging&#8221; or &#8220;hammering&#8221; the material. The stage in which molten iron is produced. Our proprietary SIP (Sumitomo Improved Penetration) heat treatment is applied to enhance various performance factors by densifying the structure of the metal. For centrifugal high-speed steel, DH (Differential Heat treating), another proprietary heat treatment of our own, is applied to deliver increased hardness of body sections only.<\/p>\n<h3>Equipment<\/h3>\n<p>Seven heat treatment furnaces, one DH furnace <em>(as of April 2025)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n<div class=\"pic\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/shi-hmx.co.jp\/english\/wp_shihmx_en\/wp-content\/themes\/theme_shihmx_en\/images\/roll-process\/process_5_v2.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"txt\">\n<div class=\"sec_title3\">\n<h2>Processing<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>A processing, or machining, stage in which products are given finished forms.
